What are we doing here?

  S.o.V can be considered the natural extension of a unique style of Ukrainian musical interpretation that has been emerging in Adelaide South Australia for the last 2 decades.   It formed in 2006 during an impromptu jam session at a wedding reception, this is where the concept of blending a blues/rock sound with the Ukrainian bandura, began to take shape. Although continuing the ‘East meets West’ format, S.o.V  is not an easy unit to categorise. The re-interpretation of traditional Ukrainian folk music remains a focus, incorporating contemporary instrumentation, while including global beats & grooves from some exotic organic instruments. More recently, some original material has emerged, & the use of powerful visuals added to performances, further extending the musical domain of the band.  

 S.o.V  is truly a world music experience.

The bandura needs to be heard rather than explained.  The tool of storytellers, this unique   multi-stringed instrument dates back to the 6^th century.  It brings definition and emotion to tales, both tragic & joyous.  Blended with the textures of  bass, guitar, keyboard, drums, hammer dulcimer & various other  specialized  percussion instruments, cinematic tapestries are woven.
